1. North Cambridge Academy interviews Ai Weiwei
At the opening of our exhibition Ai Weiwei: The Liberty of Doubt, five year 9 students (aged 13-14) from our partner school North Cambridge Academy were invited to interview the artist to offer a new perspective on the exhibition.

2. ART NOW Project

Throughout the year we have been working with Castle School, an inclusive school supporting SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) pupils, on a new project called ART NOW. The aim of ART NOW is to support SEND students to become an active voice in their own cultural lives and to collaborate with a contemporary artist to create new artwork.

4. Introducing the Art Cart

The Art Cart was a new, mobile creative activity cart which was created with creativity and sustainability in mind. It was made using upcycled materials including packing crates and piano keys. The Art Cart is regularly placed around Kettle’s Yard with creative activities for children to enjoy.
5. New Children’s Book: What Hides Inside?
In July this year we were delighted to share the publication of a new children’s book ‘What Hides Inside?’ illustrated by Rachel McGivern and written by Imogen Alexander. In this book, join a group of local children on their adventure through artworks and objects as they explore Kettle’s Yard, discovering the many things that can hide inside an art gallery.
This is the third book produced through the Story Explorers project, a partnership between Kettle’s Yard and The Red Hen Project, funded by Talking Together in Cambridgeshire.

6. Here/Now at Nuns Way Pavilion

In April 2022 we were delighted to share a series of artworks at Nuns Way Pavilion, created in collaboration between Kettle’s Yard, artist Anna Brownsted and a group of unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people. The young people involved in the project are in care or care leavers supported by Cambridgeshire Virtual School. Here/Now provided an opportunity for the young people to get to know Cambridge better through exploring the city and developing a greater connection through creativity.
7. Artist Interviews: Paint Like the Swallow Sings Calypso
Over the summer we interviewed the three contemporary artists in our exhibition Paint Like the Swallow Sings Calypso.

8. Sir Paul Smith, a living design legend, comes to Kettle’s Yard

In February 2022 we welcomed fashion designer Sir Paul Smith to Kettle’s Yard for an in conversation organised by the Friends of Kettle’s Yard. In this post, Martin Thompson, one of the Friends, told us more. You can listen to a recording of the event here.
9. Celebrating CoLAB
This summer, the Clore Learning Studio at Kettle’s Yard transformed into a creative research lab and everyone was invited to take part. In this blog post Community CoLab Assistant Curator Molly Stock-Duerdoth told us more about the project.
