Holiday Workshop: Senses of Colour

2 April, 10am-12.30pm

Join artist Hilary Moreton in this workshop for 7-11 year olds and use all your senses to explore artworks and colour differently, creating your own paintings and drawings to take home.

Participants will get the opportunity to explore the Kettle’s Yard house and the large collection of art and objects on display, and be inspired by colourful artworks such as Joan Miró’s Tic Tic.

Book Now £15 (£5 Open House Community cardholders), booking required

In this workshop, Hilary will lead an imaginative drawing and painting session encouraging participants to explore questions such as: What texture is blue? Does yellow have a flavour? Does picture have sound?

Do parents/guardians stay with their child during the workshop?

We don’t suggest that parents should stay for the workshop.

Kettle’s Yard workshops are planned for children to engage with creativity independently. Our artists, staff and volunteers are on hand to provide support throughout the workshop and we foster a warm and welcoming environment.

If your child is anxious and you would like to stay whilst they get settled at the start, that is fine. Please do let us know this beforehand if you are able.

My child is older/younger than the workshop age range – can I still book them on?

Kettle’s Yard Artist Facilitators carefully plan activities to suit certain ages and abilities and we kindly ask for this to be respected.

Our workshops for 7 – 11 years require participants to be able to work independently and be in a group with children of different ages for a period of 3 hours. From our experience, younger children find this very challenging which can impact their, and other children’s, experience. Children over 11 years may find the activities not challenging enough for their abilities.

For the 11 – 16 years workshops, these often reflect some more challenging or complex ideas and content from our exhibitions or collections which may be unsuitable for younger children.

Is there a lunch break? Do you provide lunch?

For workshops happening from 10am – 12.30pm there is no lunch break. We do have a mid-morning break and provide simple snacks, but participants are welcome to bring their own. We do ask that these do not contain nuts.

For workshops from 10am – 2pm or beyond, there is a planned break for lunch, but lunch is not provided. We ask that participants bring their own packed lunch and we will ensure that is clean space to eat together.

My child has specific access needs or allergies, can they still come?

Please do let us know about any additional needs or allergies when booking to enable us to best support your child during the workshop. If we have any further questions, we will be in touch.

We have booked but are no longer able to attend, can we have a refund?

Unfortunately we are unable to provide refunds for places cancelled by participants. We are happy to exchange places if you know of another child who would like to come in their place. Please do get in touch to let us know.

Access

  • The galleries, where exhibitions are shown, and all areas of the Clore Learning Studio (level -1) and Ede Room (level 2) are fully accessible to wheelchair users. There is a lift giving access to all floors located past the galleries, just beside the Clore Learning Studio on the ground floor.
  • We have wheelchair accessible toilets on the lower ground, ground and first floor.
  • Part of this workshop will involve visiting the Kettle’s Yard house. Due to the historic nature of the building, unfortunately 3/4 of the house is not accessible to wheelchair users. The main work which this workshop will be focusing on, Joan Miró’s Tic Tic, is in a part of the house which is not wheelchair accessible. However, we can provide detailed images of the work on an iPad. Please do contact learning@kettlesyard.cam.ac.uk if you have any questions about access.
