From 14 March the house will be closing for approximately 4 weeks whilst we replace the heating and cooling systems. There will also be scaffolding up around Kettle’s Yard for a number of weeks.
The house at Kettle’s Yard was Jim and Helen Ede’s home, and much like our own homes, maintenance is needed from time to time to look after it.
The works taking place will see the heating and cooling systems replaced in the house plus renewed glazing fitted in the windows. This project will result in vital improvements in our ability to look after the house and collection.
The house is filled with a variety of art and objects including paintings, works on paper and natural materials like wood and fabrics. Being able to keep consistent environmental controls that we can monitor is essential to ensuring that we can care for and maintain the collection.
We are working hard with the appointed contractors to make these improvements with minimum impact to the building, and in line with its listed status. Artworks and furniture won’t move or change as a result of the work.
Overall the works ensure that we can continue to care for and maintain the house and collections for you to enjoy.
Whilst the house is closed, you will still be able to visit our exhibition Issam Kourbaj: Urgent Archive, the café and the shop, which will remain open as normal throughout the period. The New Music concert on 14 March will also still take place in the house.
