Documenting Hyperlocal Radio by Cambridge Community Arts Photography Club

Earlier this year we were delighted to welcome the fantastic photographers of Cambridge Community Arts Photography Club to Kettle’s Yard. The group documented our ‘Hyperlocal Radio’ exhibition in the Edlis Neeson research Space at Kettle’s Yard in April 2019.

Inspired by pioneering developments in radio by PYE Ltd in Chesterton, artist Hannah Kemp-Welch worked with residents of North Cambridge to explore, create and capture stories, songs and sounds which celebrate the diversity of voices within our community. Visitors were invited to sit, listen, touch and smell artworks created by the local community including local histories, hopes for the future, comedy, playlists, performances, conversations and archival material.

It was really interesting seeing the Photography Club at work, what they were drawn to and how they focused in to highlight certain elements of the exhibition. The results are this special collection of images that offer beautiful, unique and individual viewpoints of the artworks on display.

With special thanks to Bryan, Carole, Iain and Lil, and we hope these images will inspire more collaborations in the future.
