Jan Ellison

Born 1902 – Died 1984

Born in Harlton, Cambridgeshire, Ellison studied sculpture in Paris with Ossip Zadkine. There he met many of the key figures of the artistic avant-garde of the 1920s and ’30s. After working as an intelligence agent in the Middle East during World War Two, he re-trained in ceramic studies at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London. He set up the Cross Keys Pottery in Cambridge with his wife Zoë.
