Visit to Modernist Home in Grantchester

Saturday 30 August, 10-11.30am

Join the Friends on a visit to a special home in Grantchester, originally designed by architect Kenneth Capon in 1959 and conscientiously renovated in 1985 by husband and wife architects Paul Boissevain & Barbara Osmond.

This event has passed. £16 Friends, (£22 non-Friends, £11 Students) booking required (price inclusive of 20% VAT)

About the house and architects

Kenneth Capon (1915 – 1998) helped to found the Architects’ Co-Partnership. The firm was based on the conviction that architecture should serve a social purpose and change society instead of merely looking beautiful. Capon is best known for his mid 60’s buildings at University of Essex in the bold new Brutalist style.

Dutch-born Paul Boissevain (1922 -2014) and British-born Barbara Osmond (1922 – 2010) are possibly best known for two projects: the 1965 Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre that was contentiously demolished in 2021 and a design for the Sydney Opera House that was never built. Shortlisted from over 200 international entries the husband and wife duo came 2nd, then bumped down to 3rd in the international open call to design the Sydney Opera House.
