Teacher CPD: Natural Paints and Inks
12 November 2024, 5-7.30pm (doors at 4.45pm)
Primary and secondary teachers are invited to join artist Kelly Briggs to explore, experiment and create paints using natural pigments and inks in our next Teacher’s CPD.
Please note we have a maximum of 4 attendees per school.
Are you keen to learn some of the processes for making natural inks and pigments? Would you like to test and play with natural inks and paints to create layered paintings? This artist-led teacher CPD is designed to support your learning and development in this area, providing you with inspiration and new approaches for your classroom.
The session will start with an inspiration-gathering after hours visit to our new exhibition Portia Zvavahera: Zvakazarurwa. Following this, you will extend upon the layers, patterns and surface quality explored in Zvavahera’s work with artist Kelly Briggs. She will lead an introduction to working with natural materials in art and demonstrate how to create paints using natural pigments and inks, using some of the things you can find in your home (or school). You’ll finish the session making your own paintings using these natural paints and inks.
Light refreshments will be served during the evening.
Please email schoolbookings@kettlesyard.cam.ac.uk with any queries.
About Kelly Briggs

Kelly Briggs is an artist working at the intersection of art and science. With deep roots in Cambridge, Kelly is inspired by the wealth of scientific research in her hometown as well as the awe she feels from being out in nature. Through print, painting and sculpture, Kelly explores the fine balance of nature and our place in it as humans. Through facilitating workshops Kelly aims to inspire others to look deeper and connect to the natural world around them.
What Teachers Are Saying
Hear from previous attendees of our Teacher’s CPD events
I love how practical these teacher CPD’s are – very inspiring and helps get the creative juices flowing.
Thank you – I have so many new ideas to take back to the school. I’ll be looking to increase ‘ways in’ to creativity and ‘soften’ the pressure students feel to perform to certain standards.
