Studio Sunday: Relaxed Session: Hidden Portraits
3 August, 12–1pm
Join artist Rachel McGivern for our family workshop, in this session for children with additional sensory needs. Create ‘Hidden Portraits’ inspired by the current exhibition Lubaina Himid with Magda Stawarska: Another Chance Encounter. Rachel will work with you to create painted portraits inside surprise places – such as envelopes or cereal packets!
Your Challenge: Paint a hidden portrait inside your box. Choose someone who’s amazing but often not noticed, like a family member, shop worker or friend.
We invite families with children who have additional sensory needs to join us for our Studio Sunday Relaxed Session. These quieter art making workshops aim to provide a comfortable creative experience at Kettle’s Yard.
In our Clore Learning Studio, participants can make art inspired by artworks and ideas at Kettle’s Yard, supported by artists and volunteers. No prior art experience is required.
Activities are designed for children ages 3–11 and we encourage parents and carers to create alongside their child.
Pre-booking is required for this free disability-friendly workshop tailored for families seeking an inclusive art experience together.
What Our Visitors Say
It’s amazing how creative we can be when given the opportunity. Thank you Kettle’s Yard.
Thank you for this event! My family loved it (as with all the family studio events you usually organise).
Our girls had a lovely time and our eldest, who often struggles with unfamiliar environments and tasks, settled right in so much that they didn’t want to leave at the end. The coordinators were great. We’ll be back!
