New Rhythms at Harewood House, Leeds
11 July – 1 November 2015
Selected works from our popular New Rhythms exhibition were on display.
Harewood was the only venue to receive this major exhibition from Kettle’s Yard featuring work by renowned French-born sculptor and draughtsman, Henri Gaudier-Brzeska. It was the first time Brzeska’s engagement with dance and movement had been explored. New Rhythms brought together sculpture, drawing, photography, film, and archive material in a display which marks the centenary of his untimely death in WW1.
The exhibition also included a new commission which took inspiration from Gaudier-Brzeska’s Wrestlers relief. This collaboration between composer Kate Whitley, choreographer Malgorzata Dzierzon and filmmaker David McCormick, featured music for a violinist and a violist and a duo of dancers. On view in the exhibition, it asked us to consider how Gaudier-Brzeska’s works can inspire NEW RHYTHMS today. You can watch excerpts from the film below.
