Mona Hatoum: So much I want to say
10 July – 24 October 2027
This exhibition will span the varied and rich practice of Mona Hatoum (b. 1952, Lebanon) over four decades. Opening with her 1983 video So much I want to say, the exhibition will bring together artworks in different media, from installations to works on paper, that demonstrate Hatoum’s sustained efforts to extract profound meaning from the transformation of ordinary materials.
Extending into the domestic setting of the Kettle’s Yard house, the exhibition will feature works that reflect many of the core themes of Hatoum’s practice, including issues of conflict, displacement, vulnerability and control. From her early performances – in which the artist used her own body to examine ideas of political oppression, surveillance, and the fragility of human life – to her minimal sculptures which turn ordinary objects into threatening, uncanny, or political statements. This exhibition will track Hatoum’s vigilant examination of what it means to be human when safety, sanctuary and sympathy are constantly at risk.
