Matthew Darbyshire: A Way of Life (in homage to Jim Ede)
14 September 2013 – 26 January 2014
For this work Matthew Darbyshire coupled eye-popping imagery taken from the season’s home-ware magazines with a series of iconic scenes from the interior of the Kettle’s Yard house.
During his time as Associate Artist at Kettle’s Yard, Darbyshire became interested in Jim Ede’s selective approach to taste and trends that was fundamental to realising his vision at Kettle’s Yard in the 1950s and 60s. By introducing the latest in mass produced home-wares into the House, from vibrant painted furniture to flocked animals and shiny amorphous sculptural forms, Darbyshire created an imagined contemporary makeover.
Matthew Darbyshire was one of four Associate Artists working with Kettle’s Yard since 2011.
