Kettle's Yard OPEN 2008

22 November 2008 – 11 January 2009

Our biennial OPEN exhibition for 2008 showcased the work of 17 talented artists/collaborations from the Eastern region. Since 1995, the Kettle’s Yard OPEN has highlighted the range and vitality of art made in East Anglia. This exhibition looked at the work of each artist in depth, offering many of those selected their first substantial presentation in a public gallery.

In 2008, marking a departure from previous years, our selectors were both curators rather than artists: Simon Wallis, the first Director of The Hepworth Wakefield and previously director of the Chisenhale Gallery, London (who started his career as Exhibitions Organiser at Kettle’s Yard) and Gill Hedley, an independent curator, trustee of Spike Island in Bristol and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Until 2006, she was the Director of the Contemporary Art Society.
