Glebe Place visit: London studio-house designed for Harold Squire by Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Tuesday 14 January 2025, 2–3.30pm
Join the Friends of Kettle’s Yard on a private tour of Glebe Place in Chelsea, London.
About Glebe Place
Glebe Place was originally designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for the painter, Harold Squire. The artist Edward Le Bas RA, CBE lived in the house from 1948-1966, followed by his sister Molly Le Bas, a sculptor. Edward’s style owed much to the French tradition, Post-Impressionism in particular, and to the work of his great friend Duncan Grant and the Bloomsbury Group. As a collector, Edward amassed a hoard of important works, including the Camden Town Group, the Bloomsbury Group and Édouard Vuillard that complement 200 of his own works. Molly’s son, Richard, will show us a part of this remarkable collection in his uncle’s original studio. As a special treat, we will also see two sculptures by Henri Gaudier-Brzeska that are not usually in London.
