Saturday 13 September, 10-11.45am or 2-3.45pm
Join the Friends of Kettle’s Yard on a private tour of Jean Gibson and Anthony Whishaw RA’s studio home in London.
About Jean Gibson and Anthony Whishaw RA
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the studio and home of sculptor Jean Gibson (1927-91) and Senior Royal Academician Anthony Whishaw RA. The studio has been described by Richard Davey, author on contemporary art and two books on Whishaw, as ‘like walking into Tony’s brain’. The largely untouched space is a hidden gem within the heart of Kensington where he lived and worked from 1957 until March this year. The tour will be given by daughter and studio manager, Zoe, who will take us on a journey through Anthony’s decades of ideas and practice. Some of Jean’s art will be on view as well. Works by both artists will be for sale.
If not in use on the day, we will also walk to nearby Christ Church to see ‘The Crucifixion’ (shown on the right) and ‘Last Supper’, two of Anthony’s large-scale works from the 1950s.
Anthony had a solo exhibition, From Landscape, at Kettle’s Yard in 1982.
