Film Screening: Adham Faramawy 'The Cyclamen and the Cedar'

Join artist Adham Faramawy for the launch of their new film ‘The Cyclamen and the Cedar’, the culmination of their recent residency at Kettle’s Yard as part of 20/20, a 3 year programme with the UAL Decolonising Arts Institute. Followed by conversation between the artist and curator Guy Haywood.

Adham Faramawy works across media works exploring the entanglement of land, rivers and migratory flow through history, mythology and flora. Through body, gesture and movement, their performance for camera pieces explore ideas of borders, boundaries, and fluid subjectivities centring the nuanced and complex relationships between marginalised bodies and place. Faramawy is an Egyptian artist based in London. They have screened and exhibited their work at Guggenheim Museum, New York; Tate Modern and Tate Britain, London; Serpentine Gallery, London, and Chapter Gallery, Cardiff. They were shortlisted for the Film London Jarman Award 2021 and 2017, were the recipient of the Frieze London Artist Award 2023 and is currently artist in residence at Kettle’s Yard.

20/20

20/20 is led by the UAL Decolonising Arts Institute and supported by funding from Arts Council England, the Freelands Foundation and University of the Arts London. The programme brings together 20 emerging or mid-career ethnically diverse artists who may identify as black, brown, or as people of colour, with 20 public art collections – leading to 20 new permanent acquisitions in museums and galleries across the UK.

Please note, for conservation and security reasons, no bags or large coats are allowed in the house. Limited bag storage is available at reception.

This event will take place in the extension of the house which is accessible, with some limitations. The upper part of the ground floor extension area is accessible for wheelchair users and the ground floor extension area of the house is newly accessible for wheelchair users with a ramp. There is no lift to the upper floors of the house. If you call in advance or ask at the information desk we can reserve an accessible seat for you.
