Exhibition Visit: Paragon Press Print Show at Magdalene College
Wednesday 16 July, 5-6.30pm
Join the Friends of Kettle’s Yard on a private visit to Magdalene College’s Robert Cripps Gallery to view an exhibition of works published by the Paragon Press entitled Throes of the Modernist Dream. On display are prints by three renowned contemporary artists, Rachel Whiteread, Grayson Perry and Sarah Morris.
Charles Booth-Clibborn, Paragon Press founder, has kindly agreed to introduce the Friends to the work of the Press which he founded in 1986 to encourage upcoming British and Britain-based artists to explore printmaking. Since its inception, it has published over 120 projects and collaborated with some of the most significant artists of our time. Following the introductory talk from Charles, we will view the exhibition and there will then be an opportunity to talk to him over a glass of wine.
About Paragon Press
Paragon has published over 120 projects ranging from single images to extended series and has collaborated with some of the most significant artists of our time. These include Georg Baselitz, Richard Long, Antony Gormley, the Chapman brothers, Damien Hirst and Marc Quinn. Paragon places these artists, typically with a background in painting, photography or video, with independent printmaking studios across the UK and Europe to experiment with techniques such as etching, lithography and screen printing. Many have little or no previous exposure to printmaking. Artists are then invited to create a project in the form of a series or portfolio of prints. Paragon’s prints have been placed with important museums and contemporary art collections around the world.

About Throes of the Modernist Dream

This exhibition introduces a selection of prints by three renowned contemporary artists published by Paragon Press: Rachel Whiteread, Grayson Perry and Sarah Morris. The works are connected through their portrayal of modernity and the consequences of the modernist dream. Whiteread’s work commemorates the cycles of urban development and decay, while Perry’s The American Dream drags us into the crises of the global present. Morris’ brightly geometric work speaks to our synthetic, complex mechanical world.
