About the Cranford Collection

The Cranford Collection is a contemporary art collection established in 1999 at the home of Muriel and Freddy Salem in Regent’s Park.  One of the collection’s initial aims was to build an international collection that was reflective of the dynamic scene in London at that time, and also the larger international context of contemporary art.  Among the artists at the core of the collection are Rosemarie Trockel, Bridget Riley, Rebecca Warren, Rachel Harrison, Sarah Lucas, Lynda Benglis, Louise Bourgeois, Alice Neel, Albert Oehlen, Christopher Wool, Sigmar Polke, Martin Kippenberger, Gerhard Richter, Pierre Huyghe, Wade Guyton, and Kelley Walker.

The collection presents an interesting challenge in how to successfully display contemporary artworks in a domestic environment and also demonstrates that the experience of an artwork can be constantly renewed.

The house has been recently renovated by the noted architect David Chipperfield in order to increase its capacity as exhibition space and public venue.

The installations are rotated periodically and are planned with a view to explore original associations between the artworks.

Refreshments provided.
