About the artist

Li Yuan-chia (1929 – 1994) was born in Guangxi, China. He studied art at the Taipei Normal College for Teacher Training, and became a member of the legendary Ton Fan Group in Taiwan in 1956. In the 1960s, he moved to Italy and then Britain, where he showed with the Lisson Gallery in London. In 1972 he converted a rundown farmhouse at Banks on Hadrian’s Wall into his own gallery, the LYC Museum, exhibiting work by over 300 artists and continuing to pursue his own practice, working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography and poetry.
