Sylvia Schwartz
Spanish soprano Sylvia Schwartz has made a name as one of the leading sopranos of her generation, combining a deep musicality with great lyricism, and an exquisite eye for detail.
With a career made at many of the world’s finest houses and festivals, Sylvia has brought her signature verve and exacting taste to a variety of leading roles. An experienced performer at the peak of her powers, she is at home on the stages of La Scala Milan, Berlin Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro Real Madrid, The Bolshoi Theatre and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Sylvia has also been a frequent guest of many international festivals, including Edinburgh, Baden Baden, Salzburg and Verbier. Recent engagements include Donna Anna Don Giovanni under András Schiff at the Felsenreitschule as part of Mozartwoche, Salzburg and Eurídice in Philip Glass’ Orphée for Teatro Real.
On concert and recital stages, Sylvia is much in demand, working alongside collaborative artists including Malcolm Martineau, Wolfram Rieger and Helmut Deutsch, as well as with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Philippe Jordan, René Jacobs, Fabio Luisi, Iván Fischer, Sir Colin Davis, Gustavo Dudamel, Marc Minkowski, Ivor Bolton, Jean Christophe Spinosi and Helmut Rilling.
In recent seasons, Sylvia has begun to explore more dramatic repertoire, including roles such as Donna Anna Don Giovanni, Micaëla Carmen, Cleopatra Giulio Cesare, Countess Le nozze di Figaro and Fiordiligi Così Fan Tutte. On the concert stage, Sylvia’s repertoire includes Brahms’ Deutsches Requiem, Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony and Mahler’s Symphonies 4 and 8.
