Sonia Delaunay

Born 1885 – Died 1979
Delaunay was born in Ukraine (then part of the Russian empire), before attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1905, she moved to Paris, where she met her husband, the artist Robert Delaunay. The couple became known for their experiments with ‘Orphism’, using pure colour and abstraction to evoke the experiences of light, sound and movement.
