Shenece Oretha

Shenece Oretha is a multi-disciplinary artist who was born in Montserrat and is currently based in London. In 2018 she graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She creates sound sculptures, multi-channel installations and poetry to investigate the mobilising potential of sound and listening in art. Her works aim to amplify and celebrate listening and sound as an embodied and collective practice. They look to the musicality of Black art and life, oral and aural traditions, ceremonies and literature. Oretha was nominated for the 2021 Turner Prize as a member of the Black Obsidian Sound System Collective. Her work is held in the permanent collection of the British Library.
