Prunella Clough

Born 1919 – Died 1999

Born in London, Clough attended the Chelsea School of Art (1938-39), but her studies were interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. Her early career was characterised by an interest in urban landscape, which later extended to more natural scenes. Clough worked in painting, drawing and printmaking, with a style on the cusp between figurative and abstraction. In 1999 she was awarded the Jerwood Prize for painting.
