Born 1948 – Died 2019
Umeda was born in Japan. While studying in Cambridge, in the early 1960s he helped Jim Ede with the cleaning of Kettle’s Yard. After working as a painter, he became interested in sculpture, following a visit to Carrara, the home of marble.
