Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie

Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie became interested in ceramics after seeing pots by Roger Fry, and enrolled in classes at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London. In 1924 she became one of Bernard Leach’s first students at St. Ives. After a year there, she started her own workshop, the Cole Pottery, in Berkshire. She became well known for her work with ash glazes: her knowledge of the subject was so vast that Leach himself came to her years later for advice. After the Second World War she moved to Warminster, Wiltshire, where she lived and worked until her death.
