Hannah Sabapathy
Hannah Sabapathy is an artist, born in Birmingham and now based in Dundee, whose practice focuses on pattern and colour. She studied textiles at Chelsea School of Art and worked as a print designer for a textile design studio for several years. After graduating from the Royal College of Art with an MA in printed textiles, her practice shifted as she began to create a series of sculptural furniture pieces, using a range of techniques including screen printing, lacquering and laser etching. Her work combines drawing, screen printing and rudimentary printing techniques, exploring the ways in which textiles and design are enmeshed in slavery, global trade and local industry, as well as how they relate to her own South Asian heritage.
