Charles Howard

Born 1899 – Died 1978
Born in New Jersey, Howard initially studied journalism, later turning to painting after a life-changing encounter with a Giorgione whilst touring Europe. He became associated with Surrealism, producing colourful, biomorphic works that were included in the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition in London, as well as a solo show at Peggy Guggenheim’s London gallery. He was married to the British painter Madge Knight.
