Cecil Collins

Born 1908 – Died 1989

Collins was born in Plymouth. He studied at the local School of Art (1924-27) and the Royal College of Art (1927-31). Influenced by Blake, Chagall and the Surrealists (two of his works were included in the 1936 ‘International Surrealist Exhibition’ at the Burlington Galleries, London), his visionary art was concerned with religious and spiritual inquiry. A retrospective exhibition was held at the Tate Gallery in 1989.
