Caroline 'Quince' Adams

Born 1951

Caroline Adams is Jim and Helen Ede’s granddaughter. She was given the nickname Quince by Helen, due to the round shape of her face as a child. She married Simon Duckworth and had three children: Anna, Toby and Ben. During the 1990s she became interested in pottery and developed into an accomplished earthenware potter, concentrating mainly on tableware which she threw and painted herself. Her pottery became relatively well known in England and was sold nationwide. It can be identified with the ‘Q’ symbol, at the base of cup handles or on the reverse of plates and bowls. In 2006 Quince moved to France, where she continues her pottery. She is now also interested in sculpture and has created numerous works in wood, stone, alabaster, gypsum and plaster, leading to a short series of bronze casts. Many of these are strongly reminiscent of items she saw in Kettle’s Yard in her childhood.
