Adham Faramawy

Born 1981

Adham Faramawy works across media works exploring the entanglement of land, rivers and migratory flow through history, mythology and flora. Through body, gesture and movement, their performance for camera pieces explore ideas of borders, boundaries, and fluid subjectivities centring the nuanced and complex relationships between marginalised bodies and place.

Faramawy is an Egyptian artist based in London. They have screened and exhibited their work at Guggenheim Museum, New York; Tate Modern and Tate Britain, London; Serpentine Gallery, London, and Chapter Gallery, Cardiff. They were shortlisted for the Film London Jarman Award 2021 and in 2017 were the recipient of the Frieze London Artist Award 2023.

In 2023-24, Faramawy undertook a residency at Kettle’s Yard as part of the 20/20 project—a national commissioning and network programme investing in a new generation of ethnically minoritised and diverse artists. Led by the UAL Decolonising Arts Institute, the programme brought together 20 artists with 20 public art collections – leading to 20 new permanent acquisitions in museums and galleries across the UK.
